Okay folks, May has come and gone, and the heat is here. We’re still doing festivals, though, and this time of year, a lot of festivals revolve around what fruit or vegetable is currently ready for harvest. So without further ado, here is a list of upcoming festivals in and around Shreveport this summer. Most of them will make your mouth water!
8 – 10
Louisiana Corn Festival, Bunkie, Louisiana. A corn shucking contest, softball tournament, corn cooking contest, and corn queen! Go here for more information.
Let the Good Times Roll, Shreveport. Another fun time with food, kids’ activities, and a variety of music styles including gospel, jazz, and zydeco. Check them out here.
Louisiana Peach Festival, Ruston, Louisiana.
This one looks like a weekend packed with fun. From tennis and bass tournaments and a 5K run, to music in the park, kids’ fishing tournament, arts and crafts, and peaches, peaches, peaches you’re bound to find something to keep you hangin’ around. For a schedule of events, visit their website.
Shreveport – July 4th brings all kinds of festivals and celebrations. Shreveport and Bossier will share the activities this year beginning with the Firecracker 5K on the Shreveport side, family activities beginning at noon on the Bossier side at the Boardwalk, and performances back on the Shreveport side in the evening. After that is the spectacular fireworks show.
Natchitoches – Another event I want to mention is the Celebration on the Cane Festival in Natchitoches. Fireworks etc. on the banks of the Cane River downtown. For more information call 318-352-8815.
Louisiana Watermelon Festival, Farmerville, Louisiana. Who doesn’t like watermelon? This festival has all the usual you would expect to find, but a few things that caught my eye were the watermelon hunt, watermelon seed spitting contest, the watermelon size contest, and the street dance. Sound like fun to me. Check out the website for all the events. Did I mention there’s even arm wrestling?
Throughout the Summer
Although not a festival, you must check out the schedule of limited run movies being shown at the Robinson Film Center. They also have summer camps for kids that you’ll want to check out.
Well, that’s enough for now. To find all the one-time festivals and ongoing events, visit the Shreveport Bossier Fun Guide.
